Have you been to the movies lately?

12 Jun

So yesterday I went to the movies with the family to see Get Him to the Greek (which was pretty funny by the way, go see it =D) I saw a preview for what could be one of the bestest movies ever coming out Aug 18. It’s called Scott Pilgrim vs. the World! It wasn’t the girl with the pink hair that caught me at first or the fact that it stars Michael Cera (I heart him). It was the corniness of it then it was the comic book-ness of the animation. I already wanted to see it. Then there were the fight scenes! Oh yess. Here look at the trailer and see the awesomeness I’m probably failing to describe:

See?! I really don’t have to explain the plot do I? Okay, moving on. When I got home I did some research. Scott Pilgrim was orginally a graphic novel by Canadian author Bryan Lee O’Malley and the last book of the series hasn’t been released yet. So dispite my AP English summer work, I will be reading these books before the movie comes out on what?

August 18!

I’ve been looking forward to this ever since I heard Disney was making a black princess movie . You’ve probably heard about the controversy surrounding The Princess and the Frog (about how she happens to have a perm, or how the prince isn’t black, or how it’s set in New Orleans) but once you see the movie all that seems irrelevant. The movie is about how a prince named Naveen from Maldonia is transformed into a frog by the evil scheming voodoo magician, The Shadow Man. The frog prince mistakes a girl named Tiana for a princess and has her kiss him to break the spell. However, the kiss doesn’t break the spell, but instead turns Tiana into a frog as well. Together, the two of them must reach the good voodoo priestess of the Bayou, Mama Odie, while befriending a trumpet-playing alligator and a hopelessly romantic firefly along the way.

Everything fom the plot to the music to the characters are adorable. Oh yeah, without giving to much away, Raymond & Evangeline Forever! (oh that made me tear up) Just go see it.

Get out of town.

Actor and screenwriter, Tyler Perry, is being sued for copyright infringement of his film Diary of A Mad Black Woman.

Donna West claims that his production was a rip-off of a script she wrote titled Fantasy of a Black Woman. The script was turned into a free stage play based mainly on her life and performed in 1991. According to West, Tyler or someone else in his camp saw the play and stole her idea.

She testified in court saying that “I can’t put my play on because the stories are basically the same and nobody wants to see that again.”

Sounds a  little if-y to me but yeah..

I’m begininning to love this guy. Spike Jonze just put out a new short film featuring Kanye West. It was originally shot as the music video for See You in My Nightmares but yeah, whatever.

Check out Spike Jonze’s We Were Once a Fairytale.

At first I kinda didn’t want to go, thinking the movie would just be so-so because I really thought that all basketball players were coincided and only focused on sneaker deals and had no heart. I was so wrong. LeBron James just became my favorite.

More Than a Game was a good great movie. No bullshit. Trust me, if you go see it you’ll be so into it. It’s inspiring and I’ll bet you’ll have something in common and feel for every person in the movie (no, the whole movie is not about LeBron). You’ll be sitting there saying “aww” and “go Dru!” and so on and so forth. Just go see it.

Watch the trailer, yo.

You are just a memory!

From a childhood dream

I know you’ve heard about the new children’s movie, Where the Wild Things Are, adapted by Spike Jonze (if not you need to re-evaluate your priorities. Lol.) so lets skip to the merchandise!

Probably best capturing the book/films’ childhood element is this new set of Bearbricks and Kubrick from Medicom Toy. Featured is a Black Max Bearbrick in 400% format along with a set of the same design in a 100% scale, paired with the actual silhouette of Max in Kubrick style. Both are now available through various Medicom Toy retailers, including Colette.

Why haven’t we blogged about this yet?

Yeah I know it’s childish, sue me.

Thank the heavens for director  Spike Jonze and his desire to give the world my favorite book, in the form of a movie!

If you never read the book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak I’ll give you a little synposis now. This adorable little boy named Max who is sent to bed without supper (which I guess was different from dinner back then?) so imagines this ultra-super cool imaginary forest where he meets the “Wild Things”. Well he becomes the King Of All Wild Things and they dance and yeah and whatever…

But I love it, and I’m kind of wiggling with joy now.

sorry.
