Apples on the Wall

29 Jan

CHC desgined a library feature wall using the new Apple iPad. With the features of the iPad and customizable applications, there are a lot of things you can do on this wall. “Interchangeable wallpaper patterns and videos are just the beginning, but imaging a giant jigsaw that you can play using multitouch, an interactive aquarium scene, digital graffiti, interactive speaker wall, even a life sized digital bookcase for your iBooks.” Okay, admittedly I wasn’t that excited about the iPad but this is an interesting way of using them. I like it and I like the design of the wall; you know how parts of it jet out.

That’s all fine and dandy

27 Jan

Apple’s mythical device was officially revealed today as the Apple iPad, an all-in-one multimedia tablet. The iPad is a super thin design that’s half an inch thin and features a 9.7 inch screen, 3G ($15 a month for 250MB, $30 a month for unlimited), 802.11 WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, 16-64GBs of storage, and an incredible 10 hours of battery life. The user interface is a familiar one if you own an iPhone, think of it as an iPhone on steroids with a revamped user interface to take advantage of the larger screen, complete with compatibility with virtually all your favorite iPhone apps. Standout apps of course come in house from Apple such as iBooks, for reading and purchasing e-books and iWork, for productivity.

…but I’m not that excited about this. I mean it’s a nice concept and everything but it’s missing a couple of features like a keyboard (not everyone’s pleased with on-screen keyboards), probably a USB and CD drive judging by the thickness, and with the popularity of ooVoo and Skype it would be nice to have a webcam (or maybe not now that I think about it) Before trying to buy this is late March I suggest look at tablet laptops. I have one they’re awesome AND it has a keyboard! Lol.

I have a later version of this.

Really though?

I’ve grown accustom to watching my popcorn spin with a anticipation in the microwave and I don’t think I’d appreciate a video getting in the way of that. It’s an original idea, a microwave with and LCD screen that plays a video as long as the cooking time you specify, but can you really not go two minutes without being entertained?

Honda-FC-Sport-Design-2Stud

…on it and we’re in business. Not only does this car look awesome but the Honda FC (which stands for fuel cell) Sport runs on  hydrogen. Hellz yeah. Lol. I don’t know how much it’ll cost or when it’s coming out so don’t ask.

I am Robot.

25 Nov

If you haven’t figured it out, I kind of enjoy robots. Look at the ones from the International Robot Exhibition being held at Tokyo Big Sight until the 28th.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall..

RAndom international hosted the designtransfer of the UDK Berlin. One of Hannes Koch’s projects, Study For a Mirror, is  the next generation of their other piece called A Study Of Three Mirrors.

Study For A Mirror is a ‘temporary light painting’. Face recognition technology detects when the viewer is standing in front of the work and then directly paints the onlookers image in light. The Image then gradually fades. Evectively a mirror this work offers the ultimate immediate, yet ephemeral, contemporary portrait.

Ganster, ain’t it? Lol. Chris O’Shea, along with openFrameworks and openCV wrote the software.

Aww it’s cute!

Though I don’t know why a robot needs to jump three inches in the air the new humanoid ROPID bot by Tomotaka Takahashi is adorable. not only has a few new tricks up its plastic sleeves, but has personality to spare. The bot can rotate its upper torso, which seems to help in keeping it balanced while jumping, running and skipping around. It’s still the tried-and-true “bent knees” method of balance, but ROPID is “rapid” enough to make it look almost lifelike. The movements are expressive enough, but with some slightly articulated hands and a moving mouth, ROPID ups the adorable-ness factor over some of its nuts and bolts counterparts. ROPID can also respond to a few voice commands and speaks well. Takahashi designed and built the bot himself. Sweet. Lol.

Toast my bread!

26 Oct

Hey now you can watch your bread get a tan in the morning! This is just a concept model, but wouldn’t it be cool? My only questions are how do you get the toast out and how much would it cost?

And when the fishbowl got too small to hold the goldfish..

17 Oct

I’ve predicted nearly every advancement to cell phones but I would have never thought to put fish in a phone. However, some guy in China did.

Probably inspired by the waterproof LG GD900 Crystal in a fish tank, popped open the hollow keypad of his own Crystal, slapped in two unfortunate little Neon Tetras, squeezed in some water and snap!

Broccoli City

I mean I’m not saying it’s not cool, it’s very cool, but what about the fish? How would you feed them? How long will they survive with out food? Well your phone ever have to be cleaned like a fish tank? Is this humane?  Can’t you just feel a call to PETA coming on?
